PNRR 2025 funds: an opportunity for rural pharmacies to invest in automation

With the new 2025 PNRR public notice, the Government has confirmed that rural pharmacies will be able to use the funds made available by the 2025 PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) to finance the purchase of new technological equipment, including Bertero Technologies automated warehouses and robots.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for pharmacies located in small towns, which will be able to access significant financial contributions to renew their business, improve operational efficiency and offer new services to citizens. Given the tight deadlines set out in the call for proposals, it is essential to act quickly to take advantage of this opportunity.
Who can access PNRR funds?
According to the 2025 Public Notice for Rural Pharmacies, pharmacies that meet the following requirements can apply:
• Pharmacies located in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
• Pharmacies in hamlets or built-up areas with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, even if the municipality as a whole exceeds 5,000 inhabitants.
• Pharmacies that have not already benefited from the 2022 PNRR rural pharmacies contribution for the same area of intervention.
The contribution is intended to support the structural and technological modernization of rural pharmacies, in line with the objectives of digitalization and the strengthening of local healthcare services.
Which investments are covered?
PNRR funds can be used for:
• Purchasing robots and automated warehouses for dispensing medicines.
• Management systems and software to support pharmaceutical logistics.
• Medical and technological equipment to expand the services offered to customers.
In this context, Bertero Technologies automated warehouses are fully included among the eligible equipment, allowing pharmacies to modernize their internal organization, save valuable time and improve customer service.
Amount of funding
The maximum amount of the contribution obtainable for each pharmacy is €44,260.00, covering at least 66% of the total value of the investment.
The funds available at national level total €81,472,793.44. This means that a pharmacy can finance most of its investment in new technologies, drastically reducing the out-of-pocket cost.
Timing: pay attention to the deadlines!
It is important to strictly comply with the deadlines indicated in the official call:
• Opening of the online application portal: 22 April 2025.
• Closing of the portal: 30 June 2025.
Applications must be submitted exclusively via the dedicated digital platform (PNRR Mission Structure Portal – Presidency of the Council of Ministers).
Projects will be evaluated in chronological order of submission, until the available resources are exhausted.
Acting promptly is essential to avoid losing access to the funds.
